geologic events
The Mesozoic era began 245 million years ago, and ended 66 million years ago. Pangea breaks apart 200 million years ago. Pangea broke apart during the early Jurassic period, forming the modern continents and oceans. This theory was proposed by Alfred Weagner 70 million years ago. Also, South America brakes away from Africa 70 million years ago. South America moved west from Africa. 144-166 million years ago, volcanic activity occurs. Widespread volcanic activity occurs when the continents move to there present locations.
development of life
Flowering plants develop 240 million years ago. The first flowering plant was the magnolia flower. It was a white flower with a maroon center. Dinosaurs formed 225 million years ago. The first dinosaur was the Eoraptor from Argentina, it was a dog-size meat eater. Mammals formed 225 million years ago as well. Mammals emerged from the Therapsids that include mini burrowing species that scientists think was warm-blooded, and had fur for insulation. The birds (Archaeopteryx) as formed 208 million years ago, it was part bird and part dinosaur. It had teeth, and 3 claws on each wing. It also had a long bony tail, feathers, and hollow bones. Snakes formed 144 million years ago. Snakes evolved from lizards during the Jurassic period, around the time of the dinosaurs. Snakes are a late-arriving kind of animal. The Mesozoic mass extinction happened 66 million years ago. This extinction occurred when an astroid from space hit the Earth. Many land and ocean organisms died. No dinosaurs survived.
